Mattress Sales Calendar: When Mattresses Are Actually Cheapest

Updated May 23, 2026

The mattress industry runs on permanent "sale" pricing — the sticker price is fiction. The trick is knowing which sales are real and which months bring genuine clearance.

The months that actually matter

  • May (Memorial Day): The single best mattress sale of the year. New models launch in late spring, so old stock is cleared hard.
  • Labor Day (September): The second-biggest clearance window.
  • Black Friday / Cyber Monday: Strong for boxed/online mattresses specifically.
  • End of any month: Sales staff work to monthly quotas — pricing softens.

How to beat the fake-sale game

Because the "regular" price is inflated, never judge a mattress deal by the percent-off claim. Instead, compare the final out-the-door price for the same model across retailers. The identical mattress is often sold under different names at different stores to prevent exact price matching — note the specs (coil count, foam layers, height) rather than the model name.

Floor models & returns

Many stores quietly sell floor models and law-permitting returns at 40-60% off. Ask directly. Online brands (boxed mattresses) often have a "clearance" or "open-box" page with returned units that have been re-inspected.

Don't forget the extras

Free delivery, old-mattress haul-away, and a free frame or pillows are real negotiating chips. If the price won't move, the add-ons often will.
