• Lowe's & Home Depot: Most stores have a clearance/"as-is" appliance corner, usually toward the back of the appliance section. It is rarely listed online — go in and ask.
• Best Buy Open Box: Returned and display appliances graded Excellent/Satisfactory, searchable online by store.
• Outlet stores: Appliance brands and big-box chains run dedicated scratch-and-dent outlets in many metro areas.

What the discount really comes from

Most "scratch-and-dent" units have cosmetic-only flaws: a dinged side, a scuffed door, or a missing manual. Functionally they are brand new. Always ask why a unit is discounted and inspect the specific flaw — a dent on a hidden side is free money; a damaged door seal on a fridge is not.

What to check before buying

• Confirm the full manufacturer warranty still applies (it usually does)
• Plug it in / run it if the floor allows — confirm it powers on
• Check that all racks, shelves, hoses, and parts are included
• Measure your space and doorways before you commit
